Stella Marquez Araneta is currently making headlines in the Philippines and not in a good way. See related post here.
From Filipino designers to Twitter users, it seems that many are expressing their disappointment – ok anger – with her. Will the angry netizens speak with their wallets though? Stella had married into one of the Philippines’ wealthiest families. The Aranetas are involved in many businesses in the country.

Aside from the Araneta Coliseum, which is part of the 35 hectare Araneta Center complex, what are the other business holdings of the Aranetas?
The Araneta Center is the location of three malls, from upmarket to downmarket – Gateway Mall, Ali Mall and Farmer’s Plaza. Trivia: Ali Mall is named after Muhammad Ali. Another Trivia: If you’re visiting the Philippines, there are much better malls than Ali Mall.
The Araneta Group consists of many companies.

You can read more about their holdings in detail here.
Many people are probably aware of what the Aranetas own (Clue: If it has the name Araneta attached to it). However, many people may not know that they operate and own the franchise of notable fastfood brands; Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Dairy Queen; in the Philippines.

Stella helms the Binibinang Pilipinas Charities Incorporated (BPCI), a non-profit organization, the franchise holders of many international beauty pageants, including Miss Universe. The angry netizens obviously know that already.

She also owns Cumbia, formerly known as Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) Boutique. If you drop by the store, you’ll probably be lucky enough to score an Alfredo Barraza original… and be the talk of the town, but probably not in a good way.
